Your 100 Day Prayer: Day 48: How Long, O Lord? And Other Stories
by TJ Bates
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
-Isaiah 40:28
“Are we there yet?” “How much longer?” “When will we get there?” are complaints heard from children, but often from adults as well when they are anxiously waiting for an answer.
But “some of the greatest saints in history have far outdone you in the art of complaining. It’s just part of our makeup, or at least our fallen nature. We often think that God exists mainly for our benefit and pleasure.”
Think about this:
“So we need frequent reminders that he’s God and we aren’t. Not that most of us sit around thinking we’re the Creator of the universe, it’s just that we find ourselves drifting into the belief that we are the center of it. We need to hear once again that the Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the earth. He deserves all glory, honor, love, worship, and service. But at the same time, we need to be reminded that he won’t grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
“….What great news it is that he’s stubbornly ‘us-ward’ in all that he does and that he aims his inexhaustible energy and wisdom in our direction! We can bank on all this as we continue our prayer.”
TODAY’S PRAYER: It’s okay to ask God to forgive your complaints. Pray that he will bring to you a new understanding of his plan so that you will come to appreciate his ways (and timing) in carrying out his will for you.
