Your 100 Day Prayer: Day 35 – Always Reliable

by TJ Bates via Theology Mix

I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsake or their children begging bread.
-Psalm 37:25

I can relate to what King David says, for I was young and now I am old and I, too, have never seen God forsake those who trusted him.

“Farther along in the psalm, David reiterates that ‘the salvation [rescue] of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their stronghold in time of trouble’ (verse 39). So we can be confident even in times of great want, because we have a wondrous God whose grace and mercy we can trust.

“Yes, we’ll always hear of someone somewhere in the world who doesn’t have life’s basic needs met. This is true even of believers who are suffering want, deprivation, imprisonment and all the rest. We should be wary of ‘Christian advertising’ suggesting that believers live within a protective bubble and will never suffer as others do. But at least four thousand years of Jewish and Christian history tell us we can be sure, even in those most severe cases, that God never abandons his people nor leaves them without hope or solace. If we wait patiently, we’ll begin to hear those reports of divine help and mercy that the evening news forgot to cover.”

TODAY’S PRAYER: As you bring your requests before God, remind him of his great faithfulness to those of old and of your confidence in him to meet every need in his time and way.
