Your 100 Day Prayer: Day 90 – Where Is Your God?
by TJ Bates
Why are you downcast, O my soul
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
–Psalm 42:5-6
I smile when I read what Dr. Snyder wrote: “David was talking to himself again. Generally not a good sign!” Dr. Snyder admits he’s been where David was. I know I have also. Have you? If so, you will appreciate the following words from Dr. Snyder.
“Verse three of this psalm really catches my attention: ‘My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, ‘Where is your God?’
“But David doesn’t allow himself the luxury of wallowing in his tears in terminal self-pity. He reminds himself (‘his soul’) to put his hope in God, for he looks forward to the moment when he will praise God for his deliverance. He expects it to happen.
“There’s no doubt in his mind where his help will come from: his Savior and his God. If he (and others) had not experienced fantastic rescues and happy deliverances in life, then there would be no psalms for us to read. Not only would there have been no one to write them, just as importantly, there would have been nothing to write about!
“But what a great legacy of information! We have in our hands a book of ‘family history’ telling us how our ancestors of faith faced and conquered all the fresh fears and challenges that arose day by day. It will be the same for us and will give us something to tell our children and grandchildren about.”
TODAY’S PRAYER: Pray that when God finally delivers you or answers your prayer, he’ll do it in such a way that you can pass on the experience to the next generation. Like you, they’ll need all the stories of God’s faithfulness they can get.
