Your 100 Day Prayer: Day 70 – He Stills the Storm
by TJ Bates
He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. -Psalm 107:29-30
How many times has God “stilled the storms” in your life? Have you shared those times with your family or with your congregation? Dr. Snyder says it is important that we do so just as the Hebrews used to do. They constantly remembered their history and were forever reminding their children. It was the glue that kept people together from generation to generation.
He goes on to say: “In the Bible, the storm was a common example and symbol of chaos and distress. The image of the tiny vessel being tossed to and fro on the churning sea was a very useful picture of human life at the mercy of forces beyond our control. The intent here is not just the fact that God has control of nature and the element (see the parallel account of Jesus quelling the storm in Mark 4:35-41) but that God has everything in his hands and brings us to our desired haven even by means of the storm. Every storm is God’s storm. The apostle Paul affirms the same truth when he says that ‘in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose’ (Romans 8:28).”
TODAY’S PRAYER: Whatever it is you’re asking from God, again keep in mind that he uses need to drive us to places we wouldn’t otherwise go. Thank him once again for whatever he is doing that you can’t see at the moment.
