A Faithful God

“Remember not the former things,
nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.”
-Isaiah 43:18-19

This is one of those passages where God is explaining to Israel that, even though they have acted disgracefully and been profoundly unfaithful to him, he is still faithful to them and intends to restore all that was lost when they turned away from his goodness. The is good news for all of us. There is nothing that can separate us from God’s faithfulness to us.

Why does God insist on giving us this kind of hope and rescue when we have given him nothing but rebellion and foolishness? Just because that’s who God is—the Holy One of Israel. It’s the mark of his character, and by that alone and nothing else we are sure of his constant faithfulness, his rescuing power from every impossible situation, and his ability to open a door that doesn’t even now exist. He can create a way out that you can’t possibly imagine.

Today’s Prayer: Father, I really don’t know all the whys of what has come my way. If I share in the problem, I’m truly sorry for my part. I ask for your mercy and for your highest and best for me from this day forward. Amen.
