From the Pastor (Page 18)

Would you like to spend eternity with a group of dour, self-righteous, ritual-bound, judgmental people? Would you even want to be around them? Probably not! Then why would God? Often so much of what we can know and love about God seems absent in the religious people who end up doing more to harm our perception of him than reflecting his true character. Even in our information-saturated, hi-tech culture, we know alarmingly little about God’s personality and his true character. Above

Dear Friends, Happy New Year from our home to yours! Many thanks for your Christmas and New Year's cards, notes, and gifts. We are very touched by your loving gestures. It is a tremendous blessing to our family to be celebrating our first New Year’s Day in Munich as part of the ministry of Starnberg Fellowship. We are excited about what God has done in the past few months we’ve been here, and we look forward to his plans for 2016! Last night,

Dear Friends, It’s almost here! The children of our church have been working enthusiastically to show us what The Real Meaning of Christmas is. Join us this Sunday, 13 December, for a joy-filled worship service. It’s also the perfect time to have your loved ones be with us. Our family can’t wait! “Unless the Lord builds… Unless the Lord…” These are great words from Psalm 127, and as a family we have committed them to memory. We know that unless God is

It’s A Wonderful Life! That, of course, is the name of a film that many of us have seen—a perennial holiday classic. Along with The Bishop’s Wife and Scrooged, it's one of our family’s holiday favorites. (I should add The Holiday and Die Hard for the women in our family!) But is life all that wonderful for us? Our sermon topic for Sunday is “It’s A Wonderful Life,” and some of the questions we’ll be looking at are: What would the world

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. -1 Peter 1:6-7 Peter was writing to believers who were suffering in all kinds of ways. They lived in the midst of some of the

This faithfulness of God is so astonishing that it takes literally years to get it. It’s one of those things about him that increasingly amazes us as we learn more about him. With each life experience and a growing knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures, we see more clearly how shocking his faithfulness is. He goes way overboard with his loyalty for us. Think of it: God’s loyalty and faithfulness to us is independent of our loyalty and faithfulness to him.

Dear Friends, This Sunday, 1 November, we’ll be celebrating the Lord’s Supper followed by our Sunday Brotzeit. The message will be The Real Thing: Putting the First Day First. We’ll be building on last week’s message regarding the importance of being a family of faith. Additionally, we’ll be considering the need and benefits of regular worship together. As I mentioned, God chooses to bless us as we meet together. Things happen during worship that we can’t predict or foresee. I love

Dear Friends, It is good to be back! As a quick update, I was able to get the necessary documentation, and was also in the States in time to take care of my dad. I had just arrived in California, when Shirin called to let me know that my dad had fallen and hurt his back and shoulder. Apparently, Dad got dizzy while in the garage and fell backwards. As I was still several hours away from him, I persuaded the local

For nothing is impossible with God. – Luke 1:37 If ever there was something to rejoice about in the face of life’s most dismal and disillusioning things is God’s unimaginable power. It’s really beyond our mind’s ability even to grasp the extent of his great force, and we can only begin to approach it by contemplating what we now know about the universe. The ancient Hebrews knew that the whole thing was big and complex, but they never knew how big
